My Imprints series explores the details of the patterns
in nature as seen in the Australian environment. A sense of the moment
and the enduring nature of time are my inspirations. The endless
movement of water, the moment of a falling leaf, the effects of wind on
the landscape are examples where movement and energy are in play. The
more enduring patterns can be seen as residues of time as: fossilized
creatures or their imprints caught in rocks, petrified, found, withered,
abandoned or damaged natural objects and creatures. Also the patterns of
strata in cliffs and rock faces, the linear qualities on stones and
pebbles, the effect of erosion on the surface of natural objects caused
through internment or exposure in the natural environment. Shed snake
skins and abandoned cicada's cocoons are examples of the ongoing
metamorphosis within nature.
I use emotive colour, layer my paint thickly and collage any textural
materials that will capture the effects of nature subjectively. My
artworks are in acrylic and/or oil paints on stretched canvas.
My aim is to capture a sense of space, time and nature's energy in my
paintings.
